There are no self-made men, and there are no self-made religious orders. The Henge of the Cobbled Path has roots in the human religious impulse and in the ancient religions of the world, especially Europe and the Near East. We have roots in the Christian and Buddhist monastic traditions, and in the religions and traditions that preceded them.

But more recently, we have roots in two Pagan groups in Denton, Texas.

Caeleigh House was an eclectic Pagan group that ran from the late 1980s until the mid 2000s. It was a private group that ran public circles in back yards and living rooms. It emphasized welcoming all who came in good will, in working magic, and in providing transformative religious experiences for those who requested them. When its founding members and usual hosts moved out of state the group began to decline, but the remaining members found other groups and carried the idea of deep practice and service with them.

Denton CUUPS is a chapter of the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans. It was formed in 2000 and is very active to this day. All of the founding members of the Henge were also members of Denton CUUPS.

CUUPS welcomes all people interested in Paganism, regardless of their beliefs and practices. But some of the members of Denton CUUPS felt a need to explore polytheism and related practices in greater depth – a depth that some CUUPS members weren’t comfortable with. After a couple of attempts to create a polytheist covenant group within CUUPS, these people realized they needed a separate group.

And thus the Henge of the Cobbled Path began to take shape.

John

I grew up in Tennessee with the woods right outside my back door. Wandering through them gave me a sense of connection to Nature and to a certain Forest God. I’m a Druid graduate of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, and a member of Ár nDraíocht Féin. I served 12 years as the Coordinating Officer of the Denton Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans and 3 years on the Board of Trustees of CUUPS Continental. I’ve been writing, speaking, teaching, and leading public rituals since 2003. I live in the Dallas – Fort Worth area and I earn my keep as an engineer.
