Henge Membership Committee
approved by unanimous vote December 16, 2018
The Henge of the Cobbled Path will have a Membership Committee
Mission
The mission of the Membership Committee is
- To actively vet potential members, and if warranted, invite potential members to apply for membership in the Henge.
- To receive and review membership applications.
- To recommend any training or education potential members may need to begin the Dedicant Study Program.
- To recommend the full Henge membership approve or reject applications.
Composition
- The Membership Committee will have four members, at least one of whom must be a Senior Initiate.
- The Committee will be appointed by the Executive Council. In the absence of an Executive Council, it will be elected by the membership.
- Committee members will serve one-year terms and may be re-elected or re-appointed as long as they’re willing to serve.
Potential Henge Members
The Henge of the Cobbled Path does not proselytize and does not recruit. We strive to be available for those the Gods send to us and for those who need and want what we do and teach.
- The Membership Committee will keep a running list of potential members.
- Any member can recommend someone for membership.
- The Committee will send applications to potential members when the Committee thinks the potential members are ready and willing.
- The Committee will inform the membership of their intent to invite and allow suitable time for comments prior to sending the applications.
Application Review
- Applications often contain sensitive and personal information. The Committee will take all necessary steps to insure confidentiality is maintained.
- The Committee will ask any follow-up questions that arise from a candidate’s application.
- The Committee will solicit feedback from any members who may know the candidate.
- If the Committee does not believe the candidate has the necessary knowledge, experience, and skills to participate in Henge activities and begin the Dedicant Study Program, it will recommend books, courses, and other activities it believes are necessary to make the candidate ready to become a Dedicant.
Recommendation
- After completing its review, the Committee will send its recommendation to the full membership.
- The recommendation will include a biographical summary, with emphasis on the candidate’s spiritual and religious journey. It will not include the full application or any sensitive material in it, unless the Committee believes there is no other way for the membership to make a responsible, informed decision.
- The Membership Committee will make one of four recommendations for each applicant:
- Recommend rejection – the Committee does not believe the candidate is suitable for membership in the Henge, nor are they likely to be suitable in the foreseeable future.
- Recommend rejection and reapplication – the Committee does not believe the candidate is suitable for membership in the Henge at this time, but might be with additional education, training, or experience.
- Recommend acceptance with conditions – the Committee believes the candidate is suitable for membership in the Henge now, but needs additional education, training, or experience before taking the Oath of a Dedicant and beginning the Dedicant Study Program.
- Recommend acceptance – the Committee believes the candidate is suitable for membership in the Henge now. They may (or may not) need education, training, or experience beyond the Dedicant Study Program, but they are ready to take the Oath of a Dedicant and begin the Dedicant Study Program now.
Membership vote
- The final decision on whether a candidate should be accepted or rejected lies with the full membership.
- A 75% favorable vote is required to accept a candidate as a Dedicant.
- The vote will be a secret ballot. The Membership Committee determine the voting method and will facilitate the vote.
- It is anticipated that as the Henge grows, and especially once we have fully functioning chapters in other cities, that other methods of approving potential members will be needed. The structures and procedures outlined here may be changed by a majority of members present and voting, provided adequate notice has been given per the by-laws.
